Ukraine: Finland wants drones to protect borders from Russia

Finland wants drones to protect its borders from Russia. A tender was launched for the acquisition of between 1,000 and 2,000 UAS for ISR operations. The machines will operate from the southern coast to northern Lapland

Finland wants to increase its military capabilities on drones. This is following the growing threat from Russia, not only in Ukraine, which forced Helsinki to join NATO. Consequently, the Finnish army started a research project for the development of portable UAS and launched a tender for the purchase of between 1,000 and 2,000 machines. Objective: to significantly increase the immediate recognition capacity of units for data collection in all circumstances. In particular, the aim is to improve supervision and protection along the borders with the Federation. The drones, in fact, will be used from the southern coast to northern Lapland in ISR missions. The systems must be able to operate in all atmospheric and climatic conditions, as well as in different environments. Furthermore, training in the use of the systems will have to be simple for the Finnish armed forces.
