Syria, sudden build up of pro-Iran militias in Abu Kamal

Sudden build up of pro-Iran militias in Abu Kamal. IRGC and other groups send men and equipment to the eastern city of Deir Ezzor. Is there an imminent visit from Tehran or an arms transfer planned?

Pro-Iran militias send reinforcements to Abu Kamal (al-Bukamal) east of Deir Ezzor. In the past few hours, convoys of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and other allied groups have been sighted, heading towards the city. The area up to the Euphrates is controlled by the Syrian army (SAA). The one beyond the river, on the other hand, is Kurdish territory, protected by the SDF. Finally, to the south is the border with Iraq (al Qaim). No official reasons have been disclosed for the sudden build-up, but there are two most accredited hypotheses: the imminent arrival of some leading figure from Tehran, or the delivery of important shipments of arms and ammunition, which must be protected at all costs from possible hostile incursions. The answer, however, could come in the next few days. A possible visit would not go unnoticed despite the efforts, while an arms transfer would most likely be followed by an airstrike and, in both cases, local media would report the news.
