The SDF and Inherent Resolve have captured the wali of the Islamic State in Raqqa. The man, Atallah al-Maythan, was arrested together with 68 pro-ISIS jihadists as part of the joint operation “Revenge for Al-Raqqah deaths”, in which around 5,000 Kurdish soldiers and specialized Coalition assets participate. The leader commanded all IS cells in the Syrian quadrant, which appear to be preparing to launch a new wave of attacks in the Syrian region. During the maneuvers, still ongoing, 80 localities have so far been checked and dozens of arrests made. The operation, however, follows a similar one that took place at the end of December in Al-Hol (Al-Hawl) and Tal Tamis (Hasaka). In both cases, the objective was to dismantle the militia cells before they extend their influence in the area, becoming too dangerous.
