Pro-Turkey militias defect en masse in Afrin to not work with HTS. Their leaders just signed an alliance with the Qaedist group. The episode confirms the escalation of the internal war between the factions
The pro-Turkey militias in northern Syria dump their leaders after they swore allegiance to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). In Afrin, members of the Al-Mu’atazz Billah Brigade, affiliated with the Sultan Suleiman Shah, defected en masse. The cause is the announcement of their leader, Muhammad al-Jassem (alias Abu Amsha) that he is ready to cooperate with HTS in Idlib and fight alongside it, even merging in the future. The episode confirms the escalation of the internal war between the TAF allied factions, which increasingly see the Qaedist group as an enemy. This, in fact, distributes the scarce aid sent by Ankara to local formations, using a system of rewards and punishments to maintain power on the quadrant.
