Pro-Iran militias in Syria are preparing to launch an operation against the Islamic State in the Palmyra desert. In recent days, several leaders of Hezbollah and other allied groups of Tehran have met in Homs to plan the maneuvers. Objective: to eliminate the large the pro-ISIS jihadists resistance pockets in the quadrant. In fact, these have recently increased attacks against the SAA and the militias, also extending their operational area in the quadrant. As a result, it is feared that they may soon reach cities as well, boosting the threat level in the region. Several times in the past the Syrian army and pro-Iran groups have tried to eliminate the terrorists, also thanks to the Russia’s air support, but every attempt made so far has failed. It is therefore assumed that the operation will have a different approach and organization. Otherwise, it’s bound to end up like the others.
