Isis resumes the targeted killings campaign at Deir Ezzor. In recent days, at least two tribal leaders have been hit by jihadists. IS seeks revenge against SDF-Inherent Resolve and wants to fuel chaos to catch its breath
Isis resumes the campaign of targeted assassinations of tribal leaders and local Deir Ezzor personalities. In the last few days, at least two high-level characters have been killed by the jihadists. The latest is Husain Shaikh al-Cemil (Abu Saddam), a dignitary of the Al-Bakeer clan, killed by an IS commando in Al-Izbah. The modus operandi is always the same: gunmen aboard motorcycles attack the target and then vanish into thin air, without even stopping to verify that he is dead. In fact, many of the victims were just injured. The objective is twofold: on the one hand, to take revenge for the help that the tribes and the local population are providing to the SDF and Inherent Resolve to dismantle the militia cells. On the other hand, trying to feed the chaos and general distrust, hoping to ease the pressure suffered by the Kurdish forces.
