MARSEC, new Iranian attack on a merchant ship in the Strait of Hormuz

New Iranian attack on a merchant ship in the Strait of Hormuz. The US Fifth Fleet and a UK frigate intervene to help the ship, which is targeted by three IRGC fast boats

New attack by Iran on a merchant ship in the Strait of Hormuz. The US Fifth Fleet and the UK Navy on June 4 responded to an emergency call from a vessel, which had been targeted by three fast boats carrying Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) gunmen. The destroyer USS McFaul (DDG 74) and the frigate HMS Lancaster immediately came to the rescue. Lancaster scrambled a helicopter and Fifth Fleet sent a P-8A Poseidon into the area. At that point the three boats interrupted the attack, quickly moving away towards the Islamic Republic and the merchant ship resumed its course without further incidents.
