The Islamic State tries to exploit in Iraq and Syria the invasion of Russia in Ukraine. The US confirms that it will keep its contingents in the two countries to counter the pro-ISIS jihadists attempt to raise their head
The US, despite the Russian invasion of Ukraine has shifted international attention, will maintain its military presence in Syria and Iraq. This was confirmed by the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd J. Austin III. Objective: to assist local partners in the war against the Islamic State, which is trying to raise its head in the two countries, taking advantage of the fact that the “enemies” are distracted by the crisis in Europe. Indeed, pro-ISIS jihadists have increased attacks in both countries. In the first, they strike above all in the Badia al-Sham desert and between Deir Ezzor and Hasaka. In the second, they are mainly operating in Nineveh and Kirkuk, on the border with Iraqi Kurdistan. The appointment of the new caliph galvanized them and the Moscow offensive against Kyiv added fuel to the fire.
