Dridex and Quakbot are the top tags used in 2021 to share malware samples on MalwareBazaar. According the platform, last year contributors shared 176’532 samples. The average size of a malicious code sample was 545KB while the top reported file types were windows executables pages facing up and DLL files gear. In the same time period, 1’577 distinct YARA rules had a match on at least one malware sample shared on MalwareBazaar, generating over 600’000 hits. The rule having the most matches was “Email_stealer_bin_mem” from James in the box. Furthermore, over 1’000 hunting rules have been deployed on 2021, while cybersecurity researchers were most interested in #TrickBot Beetle followed by #CobaltStrike.
