QNAP Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices, if not updated with the latest security fixes, are still vulnerable to the QSnatch (aka Deker) malware. This, despite cybercrime exploited it in late 2019 to target the same devices. It has been denounced in a joint alert by the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). According the document, the malicious code has infected thousands of devices worldwide with a particularly high number of infections in North America and Europe. Moreover, once a device has been infected, attackers can prevent administrators from successfully running firmware updates.
